Newark – 18 October 2025 – Newark Borrow & Repair Group is excited to announce the launch of a brand-new Repair Café on Saturday, 18 October, from 12:30 – 3:00pm at Coreset 17a Friary Road, Newark NG24 1LE. The Repair Café invites local people to bring their broken or worn household items and give them a second life. Volunteer repairers will be on hand to help fix small electrical goods, bikes, laptops/pcs, and clothing – from hairdryers that won’t heat up, to laptops running slowly to jumpers with moth holes. The event is completely free, though donations are warmly welcomed to support future repair sessions. Guests can also enjoy tea, coffee, and homemade cakes, making it a social as well as practical afternoon. With free parking at Coreset, it’s easy to bring items along for repair. Why Repair? Repair cafés are part of a growing global movement to reduce waste, save money, and share practical skills. Every year in the UK, millions of household items end up in landfill – many of which could be repaired with a little know-how. By choosing to repair instead of replacing, communities can cut carbon emissions, conserve valuable resources, and challenge our throwaway culture. Repairing brings people together: it’s not just about fixing objects, but about sharing knowledge, building connections, and strengthening community resilience. Get Involved To ensure the best chance of repair, attendees are encouraged to register in advance via Eventbrite (@coresetuk) or email newarkrepaircafe@proton.me. Walk-ins are also welcome on the day. “Every broken toaster or torn jacket that we can save from landfill makes a real difference,” said Ali Carter, organiser at Newark Borrow & Repair. “We want to show people that repairing is possible, enjoyable, and good for both the planet and the pocket.Event information
